Top Quality Used Honda CR-V Models Available in Cleveland, TN

One of the longest standing, most popular SUVs available on the market today, the Honda CR-V is a bonafide American icon. Below is a short overview of the storied past that created the vehicle we now all know and love.

Brief History of the Honda CR-V

The first-generation Honda CR-V first debuted in the U.S. in 1997. Its combination of fuel efficiency, agility and style have made it a staple on American roads for over two decades. While much has changed in the CR-V since the late 90s, the efficiency, agility and style have kept the CR-V close to its roots.

Now outfitted with the latest infotainment and safety technologies, the CR-V is a modern SUV equipped with all the little luxuries that make your life easier.

Currently, the CR-V is offered in four trims: LX, EX, EX-L and Touring. This selection boasts something for everyone. From morning carpoolers to solo roadtrippers, there’s a CR-V in circulation that will perfectly meet your needs.

First Generation: 1997 - 2001

The first-generation CR-V set a new standard for Honda’s American lineup. Bringing a level of capability and joy to the road seldom seen prior to this, the CR-V offered a number of industry firsts, including an incognito and easy to assemble picnic table hidden in the truck. In 1997, the CR-V was only offered in one trim, LX. An EX trim was later added in 1998, followed by an SE trim in 2000.

A couple of additional key features in this first-generation CR-V include AWD and FWD options, as well as 15-inch alloy wheels.

Second Generation: 2002 - 2006

In 2002, the CR-V received major performance and stylistic upgrades, the latter or which are immediately noticeable at first glance. The second-generation CR-V is powered by a 2.4-liter inline-four-cylinder engine with 160-horsepower, which was available in automatic or manual transmissions. The second-generation CR-V is available in two trims: EX and LX.

Key features for the second-generation CR-V include an optional sunroof, reclining rear seats, and front and rear side airbags.

Third Generation: 2007 - 2011

The third-generation CR-V benefitted from some major cosmetic upgrades, beginning to take the shape we now see in its fifth generation. In 2007, Honda lowered the CR-V, making entry easier for passengers of all sizes. Honda also smoothed out the frontend of the vehicle and moved the spare tire underneath the car itself. The CR-V also received a power upgrade by way of a 2.4-liter inline-four-cylinder engine with up to 166 horsepower.

In addition to the EX and LX trims, Honda added an EX-L trim as well. Additional upgrades to the third-generation CR-V include Bluetooth® capabilities, new and improved interior fabric and a navigation system with voice activation.

Fourth Generation: 2012 - 2016

The fourth-generation CR-V received yet another power upgrade, still with the same 2.4-liter engine found in the third generation, however, the horsepower boosted up to an output of up to 185. While front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is also available in all trim levels.

Additional upgrades for the fourth-generation CR-V include a backup camera, steering wheel controls and a five-inch infotainment display.

Fifth Generation: 2017 - 2020

The biggest and most aggressive CR-V to date, the fifth generation is the most current CR-V available. This CR-V is about an inch taller with a 1.5-inch wider wheel base than previous CR-Vs. This alteration makes the CR-V more capable than ever before for drivers who tend to venture down the road less traveled. This also provides passengers with more space and additional room for cargo.

Other new features in the fifth-generation CR-V include dual exhaust and LED headlights and taillights.

What’s New For 2020?

The Honda CR-V has received a few upgrades for 2020. Notable upgrades include Honda Sensing® technology, a standard turbocharged 1.5-liter engine and the availability of a hybrid model.
